Our team of experts can help with gutter damage

Gutters can take a beating and sometimes they need a little help. Our team has seen it all and can help repair your gutters to ensure that they are operating at their best. Here are some reasons why gutters fail:

  • Physical damage from ladders, storms, fallen limbs
  • Older style "nail and ferrule" gutters which are known to separate and fall
  • Improper installation methods
  • Overloaded due to clogs or improper pitch to adequately drain water.
  • Wood rot on sub-surfaces or fascia

Why you cannot ignore broken or damaged gutters

A gutter system that is operating at its best should collect rain water that is displaced by the roof and guide it down and away from the home's foundation. Its a common misconception that a broken gutter is harmless - however if left unchecked, the damage that can occur over time can be exponentially more costly than having had the repair completed earlier.

What we've seen as a result of gutter repairs that are left unchecked:

Foundation Damage
Gutters were designed to keep water away from the foundation. If water is sitting or collecting around the foundation that can compromise the ground beneath slabs and footings from being able to support the main structure. While this is a slow process, once you see cracks in drywall, sticking doors, or walls that are bowing, the damage is already done.

Roof and Fascia Rot
Most, if not all, roof structures and fascia boards are made up of wooden members in North Carolina. While wood can handle some water exposure, when gutters are clogged or fallen, this can lead to situations where wood is exposed or water is able to collect and not drain effectively. Wood rot is a very costly repair and needs to be addressed immediately. Common areas that can rot with damaged gutters are rafter/roof trusses, soffits, trim, and fascia boards.

Siding Damage
We get a lot of calls concerning siding damage as a result of improperly operating gutters. For vertical wall surfaces, siding is the first line of defense against the elements. When gutters are not doing their job, parts of your home's siding receives more water than they are designed to handle. Depending on the siding material on your home, you'll often see swelling, staining, or even separation of siding material exposing the sheathing underneath.

Mold
Mold is one of the more sinister effects of damaged gutters. Areas where there isn't a lot of sunlight and high moisture is a breeding ground for mold. If gutters are not carrying water away or allowing water to collect in areas it should not be, it has a potential for mold to grow.
