Why should you choose seamless gutters?
Seamless gutters are the gold standard when it comes to rain water management because of the massive reduction of leaks happening and enhanced durability. Previously "sectional" gutters were either formed off-site in 8-10 foot sections and used a variety of sealing methods to carry water away from the roof to the downspout.
Since creation of mobile roll-forming machines, seamless gutters can be made in one piece without the need of adding sections together.
Illumiday Lighting and Gutters exclusively installs, repairs and maintains seamless gutter systems in North Carolina. As any resident or visitor of North Carolina will tell you, the weather can change within an instant. With an average 45 inches of rain fall per year for the state, seamless gutter systems are very important to homeowners to ensure they protect their home from water damage.

Signs you are due for a new gutter system
On the face of it, seamless gutters have two main functions: collect rain water from the roof and guide the water away from the foundation. Gutters can also have the side effect of raising the value of a home with different color options that can enhance visual appeal.
If your home does not currently have gutters
Many homes in North Carolina were originally built without gutters and gutters are not required by NC to be installed on homes. However, because of North Carolina's yearly rainfall, it is highly recommended to have gutters installed to protect vital parts of your home such as siding, foundation, structural members and even prevent health hazards like mold.
"Nail and Ferrule" Gutters
If you have the original gutters on a home built before the mid 2000's, chances are it was installed with a method called "nail and ferrule". In simple terms, these gutter systems use a large nail and a metal tube (called a ferrule) to hold the gutter in place. The easiest way to identify if you home has nail and ferrule gutters is the visible nail head on the top edge of the gutter (looks like a small coin every 2 feet or so on a gutter). See picture below for an example:
Faulty Gutters and Water Damage
When you start seeing signs of water damage—such as foundation movement, moisture in the crawlspace, damaged siding, or rotting fascia and trim—it’s a strong indication that your home needs a new seamless gutter system. These problems occur because the size of your roof collects a significant amount of rainwater, and without proper gutters, all that water gets dumped in concentrated areas along the roofline. Over time, that unmanaged runoff leads to costly structural and cosmetic damage.
