Keep the party going with patio lighting

Patio lighting is an art form and needs a certain attention to detail because if you think about it, patios are like an extra room that is located on the outside of the house. This is a space where people will stand to enjoy a drink, cook on a grill or sit at a table, but without walls, outdoor lighting in patios present a different challenge when it comes to illumination. To add additional complexity, patios are often a very dynamic space, needing consideration for weather, constantly moving furniture, walking paths, umbrellas, pergolas, just to name a few variables.

Bistro (aka "String") Lighting

We often refer to the style of lighting with bulbs along a wire suspended in the air as "Bistro" but they can often times be referred to as "Market" or "String" lighting. In our opinion, this is the most cost effective and impactful way to illuminate a wide area and provide even lighting. Many big box stores do sell these kits for relatively inexpensive prices, we actually recommend that you stay away from these products in favor of the low-voltage variety that we install. Often times these kits are constructed of cheaply made materials and use higher voltage which can present a safety concern.  By using low-voltage lighting, can use wire of higher quality that is inherently safer while providing excellent lighting. We take our installs a step further by implementing a steel cable on all of our bistro lighting systems to make sure the wire does not sag over time and can withstand the elements. This also adds an additional element of safety, making sure the lights stay up and not fall on you or your guests.

Step Lighting

Patios often times have steps to access different parts because they are built into the surrounding landscape that is often uneven. Here at Illumiday, we hear it from customers that they find traversing their patio a dangerous endeavor due to not being able to see the steps. We have many solutions to light up patio steps regardless if they are stone or wooden steps. When done correctly, anyone who is needing to walk up or down the patio steps at night can do so knowing where the next step will be, preventing a fall.

Functional Lighting

Patio lighting does not have to be purely for aesthetics and safety. Believe it or not, we have installed lights on patios for specific needs - most commonly for cooking, especially grilling. We have installed specifically designed fixtures for grilling and cooking to help you see what you are doing to ensure that your barbecue or steak is reaching that peak level of doneness.
